Award: Diploma in Clinical Nutrition, DCN

Notes: Course consists of 12 modules, 11 test papers, 1 mid-term and a final exam. The course has been created in collaboration with The American Council of Applied Clinical Nutrition who will provide certification to all students successfully completing the course as Fellows of the American Council of Applied Clinical Nutrition permitting the use of letters FACACN.

Syllabus : Nutritional biochemistry I; protoplasm and tissues, chemical components of carbohydrates and lipids. Nutritional biochemistry II: proteins and alpha amino acids; their occurrence and function. Nutritional biochemistry III: biochemistry of digestion and production of digestive enzymes. Clinical endocrinology; nutrient components of endocrine hormones. Nutritional biochemistry IV: nutrients of life, the oil-soluble vitamins, metabolic pathways. Nutritional biochemistry V: nutrients of life, the water soluble vitamins, metabolic pathways. Nutritional biochemistry VI: the water soluble and water dispersible minerals, the macro-minerals and micro-minerals. Nutritional laboratory diagnosis I and II: the significance of specific laboratory tests as biological barometers for determining the presence of clinical and sub-clinical nutritional deficiency states. Interpretation of contemporary laboratory tests; specific nutritional deficiencies, which appear to be intimately related to certain abnormal laboratory values; nutritional laboratory diagnosis and specific laboratory panels.
